Healing After Mother Loss
June 9, 2026
Grieving the woman who shaped you
Losing your mother is not one loss. It is a thousand of them: the phone calls that no longer happen, the questions you can no longer ask, the version of yourself who existed in her eyes. In this episode we sit with what makes mother loss its own kind of grief.
And not only loss through death. Estrangement, dementia, addiction, and emotional absence are all mother losses too, and they are often the hardest to grieve because the world does not hand you a ritual for them.
I walk through why this grief so often resurfaces years later, what it means when relief and sorrow show up together, and how the relationship you had with your mama keeps shaping your grief long after the loss itself.
We close with what healing can actually look like: not getting over her, but learning to carry her differently. Slowly, with support, and with a great deal of compassion for the daughter who is doing the carrying.

Three things to carry with you:
Mother loss is more than a death. Estrangement and emotional absence are losses too, and they deserve to be grieved even when no one brings a casserole.
Mixed feelings are not a failure of love. Relief, anger, longing, and tenderness can all be true at once. Complicated relationships leave complicated grief.
The goal is not to get over her. It is to carry her differently, in a way that leaves room for your own life to keep growing.
